Car-free overview
Cyprus without a car
Five operators run the scheduled buses in the government-controlled areas of the Republic of Cyprus, and between them they reach both airports, the main towns, the resort coasts and a handful of mountain villages. This guide says what the bus does well, where to stay to make use of it, and where a taxi or a tour fills the gap, from the operators’ own pages and the pages on this site.
From the terminal
Where are you staying?
Each answer names the line, where to board, where to change and the way back, from the operators’ own pages.
From Larnaca Airport
- Larnaca Route 425, no change: board at the Larnaka Airport stop.
- Ayia Napa One change in Larnaca: route 425 from the airport, then Intercity line 43.
- Nicosia One change in Larnaca: route 425 from the airport, then Intercity line 42, usually from the same stop.
- Limassol One change in Larnaca: route 425 from the airport, then Intercity line 45 from the same stop.
From Paphos Airport
- Paphos No change: OSYPA route 612 to Kato Paphos or 613 to Karavella.
- Coral Bay One change at the Tombs of the Kings bus station: route 612, then 615.
- Polis One change at Karavella: route 613 from the airport, then 645 to Polis.
- Limassol One change at Karavella: route 613 from the airport, then Intercity line 56.

What the bus covers Four district operators, and Intercity Buses between the towns
The Road Transport Department names Cyprus Public Transport for Nicosia and Larnaca districts, EMEL for Limassol, OSYPA for Paphos and Polis, OSEA for the government-controlled Famagusta district, and Intercity Buses for the lines between the major towns. Each publishes its own routes, so a journey that crosses a district boundary is two publications, and this site keeps them apart.
- Intercity lines link Nicosia, Larnaca, Limassol, Paphos, Ayia Napa and Paralimni; the connection guides above show where each one starts and ends.
- The district operators run the city routes, the airport buses, the beach lines and the few rural lines to the villages.
- Nothing on this site covers services outside the government-controlled areas of the Republic of Cyprus.

From the airport Larnaca: route 425, then Intercity. Paphos: routes 612 and 613
From Larnaca Airport, Cyprus Public Transport route 425 is the public bus into Larnaca, and Intercity lines 42, 43 and 45 to Nicosia, Ayia Napa and Limassol start on the street where it stops; no Intercity line calls at the airport itself. From Paphos Airport, OSYPA route 612 runs to the Tombs of the Kings station, where route 615 to Coral Bay starts, and route 613 to Karavella, where route 645 to Polis and Intercity line 56 to Limassol start.
- Choose where you are staying in the arrivals list above for the stop-by-stop answer and the way back.
- A late landing can mean the bus takes you into Larnaca or Paphos but not on to the next town; each arrival page says what happens then.
- Hermes Airports says taxis wait in the designated area on the right as you leave the Arrivals Hall, on a 24-hour basis.

Where to stay Towns where the bus does the most work
A base on an Intercity line with a district network around it gives the most car-free days: Larnaca, Limassol, Paphos and Nicosia, and Ayia Napa or Protaras for the east coast. Villages and beaches at the end of a rural line are reachable, but as day trips, with the return planned first.
- Larnaca: route 425 to the airport, Intercity lines 42, 43 and 45 to Nicosia, Ayia Napa and Limassol from the same street, and Foinikoudes and Mckenzie beaches on route 425.
- Limassol: Intercity lines 25, 45 and 56 from New Port, EMEL route 16 to Kourion Beach, route 40 to Omodos and route 64 to Troodos.
- Paphos: routes 612 and 613 from the airport, 615 to Coral Bay, 645 to Polis, 631 to Petra tou Romiou, and Intercity lines 56 and 26 to Limassol and Nicosia.
- Nicosia: Intercity lines 25, 42, 26 and 23 from Solomou Square to every other main town, and route 408 up to Troodos at weekends.
- Ayia Napa and Protaras: OSEA routes 101 and 102 along the coast to Cape Greco, Intercity line 43 to Larnaca and line 23 to Nicosia.

Beaches and day trips What a bus reaches, and what it reaches only in part
Beaches a bus reaches: Ayia Napa, Protaras, Konnos Bay and Cape Greco on OSEA routes 101 and 102, Coral Bay at the end of OSYPA route 615, Kourion Beach at the end of EMEL route 16, and Foinikoudes and Mckenzie in Larnaca on route 425. Day trips the bus supports: Cape Greco on the frequent OSEA routes 101 and 102; Kourion on EMEL route 16 and Petra tou Romiou on OSYPA route 631, both every day; Latchi with a change at Polis; Troodos on lines that run only a few times a day, and Omodos on EMEL route 40, with few trips at weekends.
- Route 16 ends at Kourion Beach, below the archaeological site; no stop is named for the site, so plan the last stretch separately.
- Troodos has a bus on every day of the week, but by different ways: EMEL route 64 from Limassol every day; from Nicosia, route 408 from the Makario Stadium bus station at weekends, and on weekdays route 405 to Kakopetria, then route 87 from there up to Troodos Square.
- Latchi needs a change at Polis: route 645 from Paphos ends at the Polis bus station, where routes 622 and 623 start.

Taxi or tour Where the bus stops short
Some journeys have no scheduled bus, or none on the day you want. Visit Cyprus says urban taxis are a 24-hour service in all towns, booked by phone or hired in the street, with a taximeter whose use is obligatory; rural taxis charge by the kilometre and are hired from and to their base station. Boat trips along the coast are sold by private operators, not by the bus companies, and a guided trip is the other way up to Troodos on a day its bus does not run.
- Kapnos Airport Shuttle, a private company, runs a pre-booked shared shuttle from Larnaca Airport direct to Ayia Napa; Limassol Airport Express links Limassol with both airports.
- Taxi tariffs, the luggage charge and the public-holiday supplement are on the Visit Cyprus transportation page; this site does not copy the amounts.
- Each arrival page carries a pre-booked private transfer option after the bus answer, for a late landing or heavy luggage.

- How do I get from the airport to my hotel by bus?
- From Larnaca Airport, route 425 into Larnaca and then an Intercity line; from Paphos Airport, OSYPA route 612 or 613. Each arrival page gives the stops, the change and the way back. Full answer
- How do I know when the last bus back leaves?
- Each operator publishes its own last departures by day type; the getting-back guide says where, which lines end early, and what the official sources say about taxis if you miss it. Full answer
- Do the buses run on Sundays and public holidays?
- Most lines run on Sundays with a thinner list; a few do not run at all. Intercity Buses switches to its weekend list on public holidays, and OSYPA prints a public-holiday list for routes 615, 645 and 631. Full answer
